Viet Khuyen Bui is a PhD candidate in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Sydney and currently a visiting student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, working with Prof. Kenichi Soga.
He obtained his Bachelor of Geological Engineering from Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (2017), and his Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering from National Central University, Taiwan (2020). His current research focuses on characterizing fabric–density–stress relationships in clays under various loading conditions, developing physics-informed hydrodynamic models for clays and applying the Material Point Method (MPM) to analyze large deformations in geotechnical engineering.
Research interests:
- Material Point Method (MPM)
- Soil constitutive modeling
- Soil microstructure
- Landslide risk reduction and mitigation
- Retaining wall structures
