Jinho Park is a post-doctoral research associate at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a project manager of the research project to develop tunneling technology at the Institute of Underground Space Technology in Seoul. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Korea University in 2017 in the field of geotechnical and tunnel engineering and joined Professor Soga’s fiber optic sensing group from 2017.

Current activities at UC Berkeley : He focus on risk monitoring using distributed fiber optic and electrical sensing in tunneling and geotechnical engineering projects. He is/was leading various testing projects funded by industry organizations and government entity in California, such as ground anchors project in Los Angeles (on going); micropile testing project in San Francisco; Flexural tests of concrete beams and cement-bentonite slurry wall, and also worked on integrity monitoring of oil and gas wells.

His graduate work was on risky ground prediction ahead of mechanized tunneling face using electrical resistivity and induced polarization. He led more than 15 geotechnical and tunneling projects funded by government entities and industry organizations in Korea. He worked as a project manager for 3 years for the gigantic research project to develop Key Subsea Tunneling Technologies ($31M) in Seoul.
