Yuya Nakashima is a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also worked at Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. for 12 years, where he is in charge of materials engineering for geothermal power generation equipment such as steam turbines.
He obtained his Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering (Dr.Eng) from Nagoya University in Japan. In his project, he was funded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). He developed a carbon-based coating named Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) to suppress the accumulation of silica scale which is one of the largest problems in the geothermal power generation industry.
At present, he has been developing subsurface materials to improve Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). He is also interested in subsurface modeling techniques.
