Hansini graduated from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka with a BSc in Civil Engineering, majoring in Structural Engineering. She worked as a teaching assistant in the University of Moratuwa for one year before commencing a PhD in the University of Cambridge. She received a scholarship from the Cambridge Commonwealth and International Trust. Her doctoral thesis is focused on constitutive modelling of shear localisation in sand. She is also affiliated with an industrial project which investigates the large deformations in buried offshore pipelines.
Research Interests
- Computational modelling of shear localisation with emphasis on non-coaxial plasticity, non-local regularisation, hydro-mechanical coupling of granular materials
- Numerical simulation of soil-pipe interaction including lateral and upheaval buckling of buried pipelines
