Presentations for New Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) Boundary for Material Point Method (MPM)

Connor Geudeker gave presentations at COMPSAFE 2025 (July 1st-4th, 2025) and the 16th Annual Material Point Method Workshop (Sept. 11-12th, 2025) regarding a new implementation of the PML boundary for an implicit MPM framework. This work expands upon that previously completed by collaborators Jun Kurima and Bodhinanda Chandra.

The former, titled “Comparison of boundary enforcement methods for seismic wave absorption in Material Point Method simulations”, highlighted the improved performance of the boundary in comparison to the previous implementation and more traditional wave damping techniques such as Kelvin-Voigt style boundaries.

The latter, titled “Evaluating Wave Absorption Strategies in MPM Through Controlled Tests and Applied Simulations”, focused on parametric analysis and convergence studies of the method. Preliminary results of applied use cases, specifically co-seismic landslides, were also shared showcasing an improved landslide triggering evaluation for the Tsaoling Landslide.
