Technologies: Distributed Strain and Temperature Sensing

The Soga Research Group has been funded by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to develop a distributed monitoring system for steel pipelines carrying hydrocarbons across earthquake faults. The system will be deployed on a large-diameter PG&E pipeline carrying natural gas across a fault in the Bay Area. The system development has progressed through the final design stages, and the full-scale installation is planned for Summer 2022.
